Qixi Festival, or Double Seventh Festival, is celebrated in China on the seventh day of
the seventh month on the Chinese lunar calendar. It is festival to commemo the romance
of Niulang(the Herd-boy) and Zhinu(the Weaving-girl) in a Chinese myth. Legend has it that
Niulang, a plain and kind-hearted herd-boy, fell in love with Zhinu, a virtuous and beautiful
fairy from Heaven, and then they had a boy and a girl. Unfortunately, Zhinu, who had come
down to the earth secretly, was taken back and was only allowed to meet Niulang on the
seventh day of the seventh lunar month each year as a punishment for her violation of
Heaven's rules. Now, this day is somehow endowed with the meaning of true love. Therefore,
it is also known as China's Valentine's Day.
